Hi,
This is an excellent article. What do you think about storytelling? I think this is important for leaders to inspire. The last 3 years I have been guiding a lot of international companies in using storytelling as a business tool. I have given a dozen workshops and lectures about this theme to blue chip companies. I have been working with all sort of businesses, with all sort of people, at all levels. They’re all convinced about the new trade. The new trade is the new business as usual!
To make it simple and concrete I summarized my view in one sentence:
It’s all about people connecting with other people by sharing their stories for everyone to repeat hoping to inspire the world and ultimately make it a better place.

Thanks Dougles, this article provides great tips that are actionable. However I use openSUSE Linux and the only Linux app that I have found works for me is Choqok. It’s bare bones basic functions includes posting tweets, tweets time line from my followers and myself, search, DM, RT, reply and a few others. I am still learning it’s capabilities.

I also use http://bit.ly for tweeting interesting articles to both Twitter and Facebook. bit.ly also tracks how many people see my tweets and how many click through to the article.

Another service I use is FeedBurner (http://feedburner.google.com) to re-syndicate RSS feeds from Technology Review and the Government of Canada. My FeedBurner feeds are configured to send out a tweet every time a new article is published on these sites and makes up the vast majority of my tweets.

Another way to make money with Twitter is through Twitter’s marketing platform. It may not pay much but at least it pays. Basically sponsored tweets are paid based on the number of followers a tweeter has.

Nice article. For SEO having a blog with a URL which you have not bought (like blogspot’s or wordpress.com’s free blogs) will hurt your SEO efforts. It is best to use their platform but by your own unique domian.

Great article. Unfortunately, a few people use Twitter to promote websites that are being used for spamming, phishing and spreading malware in the name of “get rich quick” or for promoting pornography. When these people start following me I report them to Twitter as spammers. I believe this helps to keep Twitter relevant and protect the service.

I have been using Twitter to promote my two blogs – philipramsey.blogspot.com and onsetwithphilip.blogspot.com and recently to promote the site I maintain – http://www.becometheboss.net that we use to promote our monthly “Breakfast With Fran Tarkenton” meetings in Toronto. Whenever I update these sites I send out at tweet to let my followers know.

I also use Bit.ly to tweet about websites that I believe will interest my followers on Twitter and Facebook. To my surprise Bit.ly also tracks how many people have seen my tweets and how many have clicked on the links to read the article.

I also use Twitter’s advertising platform to make some small change with Sponsored Tweets, MyLike and TwitMob.

It has been interesting taking many of these same ideas, when we have been working with customers interested in expanding to the next level.

One thing that we have been helping them with is expanding from a blog on their website to a full interactive community / social network within their own site. This works best if the fundamentals and goals you have mentioned above are in place.

And as Kevin mentioned, blogs and interactive communities also make a huge difference on SEO.
