How to Create Massive Traffic to Your Website Using Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – Part 1

Last August 2011, I embarked into a small project where I wanted to create good traffic to a website which introduces to one of my manuscript – Financial Success in Recruitment Industry that teach people step by step process of setting up a recruitment company and create more sales for their business.

After doing some research and sourcing, I finally lay my fingers in () where many people had been talking about it. It is a widely discuss topic by many gurus out there and some claims to have huge success and achieve tremendous results using  Search Engine Optimization ().

Being in the business world long enough, I know that not everything is as good as it looks on the surface and I did a small campaign on my sub-page http://www.dougleschan.com/fsri/ using the following two keywords and the results were as follows:

Recruiting Business – With over 200,000,000 potential competitors, I managed to squeeze into page 1 and ranked number #6 in www.googles.com.sg  in less than 2 months!

Recruitment Business – With over 457,000,000 potential competitors, I managed to squeeze into page 1 and ranked number #7 in www.googles.com.sg  in less than 2 months!

What I have done to create such a good ranking?

1)      Talking to the “experts”.

I start to talk to anyone who claims to be an expert and ask good questions on SEO and many of them were very helpful in assisting me on this field.

2)      Research the keywords

Having the right keywords are very important, if you choose the wrong set of key words, the potential of no traffic to your websites and also wastage of your investments. Many keywords were suggested and it all narrow down to the two keywords, recruiting business and recruitment business.

3)      Re-engineered the Website

In technical term, it means on-site or webpage optimization, which is re-positioning of the website in such a way that it is easily pick up by google.com itself, hence, the better you optimise the better your page ranking in google.com.

4)      Creating Backlinks

In Google bots, if there are other websites linking to your websites, it means your website is important or relevance, the more people linking to your websites, the more important or relevance Google believe it to be! Hence I have create hundreds and hundreds of backlinks in over hundreds or websites so that it makes my website www.dougleschan.com/fsri/ this method is totally legal and within google acceptable practice as long as you do not spam the whole internet with such backlinks.

5)      Getting indexed

Many people submit their website to the search engine and waited for months before their website is being indexed by Google. That is the traditional method where the old school had been taught. But using a clever trick and by just doing one simple step, I managed to get the website indexed within 48 hours instead of the normal 2-3 months!

6)      Wait….

Yes, you still have to wait….once you have done all the 5 steps above , you will have to wait, while the website is being indexed, it is still not on the first page, at such, time will allow the keywords to be re-indexed according to the on-site optimisation and backlinking that had been created.

After implementing the first campaign, I realised that the keywords are all on the first page of google.com.sg and I was very happy (Just like anyone else who had gone to the first page)

Basing on the Google analytical, there are potential traffics of the following every month!

After waiting for a few weeks, I realised that there are almost NO traffic going to the website at http://www.dougleschan.com/fsri/ …..boy I was totally disheartened, all the time, effort and investment towards optimisation the two keywords and there are ZERO traffic, what is going on over here? I cannot figure out the reasons and felt so lousy in for this campaign!

Redrawn the master plan

After deliberating for a while, I decide to go back to the drawing board and start the campaign from  ground zero, I study every aspects of what I have done, view it from every direction and I realised the following challenges:

1)      The people I talked to, they are expert, yes they are, on paper they bring your website to the first page but they don’t know how to get the real traffics.

2)      The keywords given, well, if it is given by the expert, you can expect “expert” results…..

3)      Competition – I did not take into consideration of the competition, I mean real competition, the numbers reflected in the google search is not a real numbers. The actual numbers in as a competition will be very different.

4)      The discount factors – Well, I also did not using a discount factors on the number on the google analytical results, which means that if I use a discount factor, then I can get the real numbers!

5)      The different type of keywords search, if you use a broad based, exact and phases keyword search, the results is very different and of course you must use the right one, if not it will end up like my previous campaign!

6)      Other hidden factors, yes there are so many hidden factors that I missed out and even the experts do not even know about it!

The Master Plan

I decided to do some changes to what I had done and focusing on just one keyword, it takes less than a few days to implement it and the following happened:

With a small tweak and focus, the daily traffic of about 5-10 visitors shoots up to an average of 30 visitors per day! Nothing to brag about but an increase of about 200%!

Noting that it is only focusing on just one keyword and it is not yet even in the first page of google, it had already had some wonders! If the keyword is in the first page and among the top 3, the traffic will be amazing…and what if I get in more keywords?

Let’s see what happen…..to be continued…
