How to build and expand your recruitment business in Singapore

How to build and expand your in Singapore

Starting a business in Singapore is very easy, all you have to do is to go online towww.acra.gov.sg with your singpass number and password and you will be able to get a business running usually in less than 1-2 hours!

Of course, for recruitment industry in Singapore, it is slightly more complex and requires the approval of the Ministry of manpower www.mom.gov.sg where you will need to apply and seek approval first before you start a recruitment business. Usually it will take a few weeks before the approval but today I will not touch based on the technical aspect of the setting up but building the business itself.

To build and expand your recruitment business you will need the following factors:

1)      Excess capital – You total cash available must be at least 5-6 times your current liability, let say if all your running cost including rental and salaries total up is $10,000, you ought to have $50,000 to $60,000 in your bank. We need to take into account that IF for that next 5-6 months there are no sales….what will happen? At least there are still enough reserves.

2)      Ensure that your consultants and at their maximum capacity, which means that they should be busy fulfilling the job orders rather that looking for new clients, if some of your consultants are still looking for new clients, it means you are not ready to expand the business.

3)      Watch the economy: Is the economy picking up? If yes, it’s a good time to go in, if the market is slow and or are going down, do not take your change to go against the trend, very likely you will not be able to make it.

4)      Check the rental market- If the office rental is at the peak, it will not be good to expand your business now, it is always safe than to be sorry.

5)      Market niche – Are you able to specialised in certain area or you prefer to focus on the general? If you focus on the niche, usually you will be able to charge higher compared to general placement. Of course with most specialisation, you will have lesser competition.

6)      Watch what the big players are doing, it’s always good to pay attention on what the big player are doing because they have all the resources and manpower to do what you are not able to do. They might have some information that could be critical. Watch out on their recruitment campaign, are they expanding or are they maintaining? If they are not expanding, why not? Do they have other information that you do not have? Watch out on the Google pay-per-click advertisement, are they doing it or absolutely not into it….check anything and everything, it can save you and also make you a lot of money in your recruitment business.

That’s all for today, I will touch based again other day.

How to Check if Your Clients are MASS SENDING their Job assignments to many recruitment agencies?

Have you ever wonder how come certain jobs are SO QUICKLY filled that before you even got a chance to post the advertisement, the position had been close? You are not alone…many of the agencies and consultants are facing the same problem – this problem becomes an advantage for the client simply because they do not need to have obligation to give you the exclusive job orders! (Sounds familer?)

Even if they were to tell you that they only give it to you (Which is unlikely), you will still need to check whether they are telling the truth! (This is one of the secret that successful agency will not tell you!)

Use the following methods to check whether the job assignement is being handled by many agencies:

Use the Search engine – Most of the time, agencies will use job portals to post their ads and such job portals are usually high ranking in GOOGLE search, hence use ONLY GOOGLE, not BING, YAHOO or any other search engine. GOOGLE can track almost anything within minutes!

Here’s what you will need to do, when the client give you an assignment, pick 10-15 wording from the job descriptions:

    For example:

    HR Manager Job Descriptions:

    Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Country Director & leading a team of around eight:

    - Strong in strategy and operations

    - Assist the Country Director in headcount planning for individual departments

    - Be strategic & analytical to see the long & short term objectives for the department & overall in line with the company objectives

    - Improve the HR policies and procedures to better meet the business objectives

    - Review and improve existing staff benefits

    - Improve existing welfare programs & employee relation activities to enhance the relationship between management & staff

    - Keep abreast of and inform the Country Director of any trends & changes in industrial relations & human resource management practices in order to stay competitive & up-to-date.

    - Handle staff counseling and disciplinary matters.

    - Improve the existing various HR information systems to increase the overall efficiency of the dept and the company

    Requirements:

    - Possess a Degree with min 5yrs of Managerial experience

    - Have strong knowledge of the Employment Act

    - Experience in dealing with wide and large range of employees

    - Possess excellent human relation skills & others such as interviewing, counseling, training & negotiation

What I will do is I will go to www.google.com and search the following : “Assist the Country Director in headcount planning for individual departments”

I will put a “xxx” between the whole sentence. When I press enter it will show me the following:

    -          All web related that has this sentence “Assist the Country Director in headcount planning for individual departments”

    -          The whole list of website that has everything related to the sentence.

When you see all the listing in GOOGLE, you will notice that some of them are posted in job portals, click on them and see who are the agencies that are currently working on the case.

In addition, when you look at the date of posting, you will also know this position had been around for “HOW LONG”

With this information of the job assignment and knowing how many agents your client had given to and how long it had been around, you will have a fairly good idea how “valuable” this job assignment is! Or course with this UNFAIR advantage, you will be one level better than other consultants in the same industry!

    Cool isn’t it?

Let me know your comment! Cheers
