Cycling to Work in Singapore

My commute to work this morning by bike, edited down to 5 minutes. The ride from Tampines to Singapore Sports Hub took 1 hour, which is only 15 minutes longer than my commute by train (including walking time). I’m lucky though, I have a safe route to work because of East Coast Park (ECP), and there are places to park my bike and shower at my office.

As the car-lite movement picks up steam and more bicycle friendly infrastructure is built in Singapore, I hope that more people will be able to enjoy cycling to work in future.

  1. Bike to work day should be everyday….. employers needs to provide places to park and lock bicycles and encourage employees to ride a bicycle to work. Children should be riding a bike to school instead of being dropped off by their parents. Cities need to do more to provide safe walking and biking trails and paths that connect homes, schools and businesses. Speak up and ask for more bicycle paths in your community.

  2. There is an obesity epidemic in this country and around the world leading to heart disease, high blood pressure and cancer……… get out and ride a bike, it is good exercise………………..
Every school should encourage children to walk to school or ride a bicycle by providing safe places to lock and store bicycles and by supporting safe walking and biking paths that connect schools, homes and businesses. Kids would be healthier and get more exercise if parents stop driving them to school and bought them a bicycle. Bike to work day should be everyday….. employers needs to provide places to park and lock bicycles and encourage employees to ride a bicycle to work.
