In my 30 years running companies, managing recruitment agencies, and advising business leaders across Singapore and Asia, career transitions have always been high-stakes moments. When a candidate attends an important interview, they naturally want to know whether an offer will materialise and whether the prospective position is genuinely right for them. In Qi Men Dun Jia, chart divination gives us a precise, systematic lens to gauge the underlying energy, organizational conditions, and final outcome of job interviews.
In this case study, a client named Mr. Tan approached me to ask whether his upcoming job interview would be successful. The chart was plotted based on the exact date and time the question was asked: February 7, 2012, at 12:33 PM.

How do we locate and interpret this information step by step?
First, we must identify where the core answer resides. In standard Qi Men Dun Jia divination, the overall matter and its outcome are represented by the Hour stem. In this chart, the Hour stem is “Wu”:
Next, we track where “Wu” is located among the nine palaces below. As we inspect the chart, we find “Wu” residing in Palace 6 (Qian Palace):
This palace provides our primary answer indicator. While Palace 6 carries approximately 60% to 70% of the weight regarding the final outcome, a complete and rigorous reading requires us to examine the interrelationships between the candidate, the job itself, and the interviewer.
Looking closely into Palace 6, we discover three key symbols: 9Earth (Nine Earth God), Sheng Men (Life Door), and Diplomat Star (Tian Fu Star). In standard Qi Men chart plotting software, these favorable, auspicious symbols are displayed in red text. Even if you are a beginner with no prior experience in Qi Men Dun Jia, recognizing a cluster of red, positive indicators in the outcome palace tells you that the energetic environment is highly promising.
Next, we must analyze the specific energy of the job position itself. In Qi Men Dun Jia, employment and career opportunities are symbolized by Kai Men, the Open Door. Looking at the chart, Open Door is situated in Palace 2 (Kun Palace):
Palace 2 contains the details regarding the role. Here we see White Tiger (Bai Hu) alongside Doctor Star (Tian Rui). White Tiger represents authority, power, high responsibility, and intense competitiveness, while Doctor Star signifies an advisory or problem-solving mandate. Although Mr. Tan had not disclosed the exact level of the position prior to the reading, the chart clearly indicated a senior executive role. Additionally, the presence of the Sky Horse (Yi Ma) strongly suggested that this position involved frequent overseas travel, business trips, or relocation.
When we look at the elemental attribute of Palace 2, the label below indicates “Kun”, which belongs to the Earth element. Therefore, the job palace is an Earth palace. Now we need to determine the position of the candidate, Mr. Tan. In Qi Men divination, the asker is represented by the Day stem, which in this chart is “Wu”:
“Wu” lands in Palace 6, which represents Mr. Tan. Palace 6 carries the trigram label “Qian”, which belongs to the Metal element. To determine whether Mr. Tan will be successful, we evaluate the 5-element relationship between the job palace (Palace 2, Earth) and Mr. Tan’s palace (Palace 6, Metal).
In the traditional five elements system, Earth produces Metal. This means the job palace produces and nourishes Mr. Tan. When the job palace produces the candidate, it signifies that the role naturally attracts, supports, and welcomes the candidate, creating an exceptionally favorable scenario for securing the job.
To be thorough, we also examine the interviewer and decision-makers. The interviewer is represented by the Advisor Star (Tian Fu), located in Palace 8:
Palace 8 (Gen Palace) is also an Earth element palace. Once again, Earth produces Metal (Mr. Tan). With both the job palace (Palace 2) and the interviewer palace (Palace 8) producing the candidate (Palace 6), all key elements in the chart aligned harmoniously. I confidently informed Mr. Tan that he had a very high probability of receiving a successful job offer for a senior, potentially overseas-linked position.
A few weeks after our consultation, Mr. Tan contacted me with great news: he had indeed passed the interviews, received the formal job offer, and signed the contract. This real-life case highlights how Qi Men Dun Jia divination can be used to forecast career decisions with 80% to 90% accuracy. At the same time, we must always remember the human factor. Divination provides directional intelligence and identifies timing, but the candidate must still execute, perform well during the interview, and choose to accept the offer for the result to come to fruition.
