Recruitment Consultant Salary Guide

Many people wrote to me on the topic on what are the salary range for a recruitment consultant as they would like to have a benchmark so that when they were to ask for the expected salary, their asking range will not be too far off the market range.

Before we go into the specifics, I would like to highlight that the salary of a recruitment consultant in Singapore will also depend on the following factors below, this will have a percentage swing upward or downwards of the indicated figures in part 1 and part 2:

Factors that will vary the salary of a recruitment consultant:

  • The size of the company, the bigger the staff strength, usually, the salary will be better
  • How reputable is the company, the more well known the company is, the better will be the salary
  • Are they are MNC or a local company? The local SME company usually tend to pay lesser compared to an MNC.
  • The scope of work, the more work you will need to do, the more salary will be given to you. (Usually)
  • The key performance indicator (KPI) set by the target, usually, it is based on the sales figure, some companies will use the term “billing amount.”
  • The target market of the company, if the agency is focusing on low-profit margin industry, likely they are not able to pay high salaries.

Salary Range of a Recruitment Consultant

Recruitment consultant with no experiences

  1. Salary will likely range between S$2,000 to S$4,000 (Based on Singapore salary benchmark)
  2. Usually, there will be a commission based on a percentage of the billing amount (with basic salary), and the range varies from 3% all the way to 50%.  The formula can be pretty complex for some recruitment agencies.
  3. Some recruitment agencies will pay commissions after you have hit a certain KPI. If you do not hit the minimum KPI, then no commissions will be paid.
  4. Allowances for transport and mobile phone are usually practiced by many companies. So recruitment agencies paid based on reimbursement.
  5. Other special incentives are also presented to the recruitment consultant depending on the management itself.
  6. Your KPI will likely to be 2 to 5 times of your salary given, that means if your salary is $3,000, then if your KPI is 3 times of your salary, you will need to “clock” in $9,000 billing amount.
