Hi, my name is Dougles Chan, and today I’ll share with you a simple but powerful method to read a Qi Men Dun Jia chart — specifically how to analyze a person’s character using the Day Stem.
Many students find Qi Men charts intimidating when they first see them — so many symbols, so many boxes!
But once you understand the logic behind the Day Stem and its placement in the Nine Palaces, you’ll be able to see a person’s core personality and how it evolves through life with surprising accuracy.
🧭 Step 1 – Locate the Day Stem in Your Chart
Open your Qi Men Dun Jia app or chart generator.
You’ll see four columns known as the Four Pillars — Hour, Day, Month, and Year.
Among these, the Day Stem represents you — your core self, your inner character and behavioral foundation.
Take note of the symbol that appears in the Day Stem (e.g., Yi, Bing, Ding, Geng, Xin etc.).
Each symbol carries its own element and energy pattern that influences how you think, act, and respond to life situations.
🏯 Step 2 – Push the Day Stem into the Nine Palaces
After you identify the Day Stem, “push” or locate it within the Nine Palaces inside the Qi Men chart.
Each palace has its own set of energies — including a Door, a Star, a Deity, and a Heavenly Stem.
Once you know which palace your Day Stem belongs to, study the symbols that reside inside that box.
Those symbols reveal how your energy interacts with the environment and people around you.
For example:
If the palace contains a Life Door and a Chief Deity, you are likely a natural leader with a nurturing side.
If it contains a Fear Door and a Moon Deity, you may tend to be introverted, analytical, or emotionally sensitive.
Each combination tells a unique story about your personality and life approach.
⏳ Step 3 – Understand Stage One and Stage Two of Life
In Qi Men Dun Jia, there are two character stages reflected in your Destiny Chart:
Stage One – From birth up to age 35–40.
This period shows your early life patterns, behavior, and default responses to challenges.
Stage Two – After age 35–40.
At this stage, your energy shifts. Your character evolves and you start to align with different aspects of your chart.
That’s why you sometimes hear people say “I’m a different person now than I was ten years ago.”
Qi Men Dun Jia can explain why that happens — because your energy moves from one palace to another over time.
🧠 Why This Matters
Understanding your Day Stem and its palace helps you see:
Your natural talents and strengths
Behavioral patterns that may block your progress
How your energy changes between life stages
The best way to interact with others and build relationships
It’s like having a psychological and spiritual mirror that reflects who you are and who you are becoming.
🔍 A Simple Example
Let’s say your Day Stem is Bing Fire.
When you place it in the Nine Palaces and see it land inside the South Palace together with a Hero Star and Open Door,
it shows a person who is confident, communicative, and driven to inspire others.
In Stage Two, if your Bing Fire moves to a different palace with a Fear Door, you may become more cautious and reflective as you mature.
That’s the beauty of Qi Men Dun Jia — it helps you see how you grow and change with time.
🌱 Final Thought
The Day Stem method is one of the most effective ways to read a Qi Men chart.
It’s not about memorizing hundreds of formulas — it’s about understanding the logic and flow of energy.
Once you master how to locate the Day Stem, find its palace, and interpret the symbols inside, you’ll be able to see your own character clearly and understand how your life evolves over time.
“Qi Men Dun Jia is not only about forecasting the future — it’s about understanding your true self.”
