What Is the Death Door (死门, Si Men) in Qi Men Dun Jia?

The Death Door (死门, Si Men) in Qi Men Dun Jia governs endings and clearing. It is the door of funerals, demolitions, endings of contracts and relationships, and removing what must go. Used deliberately it clears ground; arrived accidentally it warns of loss.

Endings done properly are a form of respect. Endings avoided are the expensive kind.

Death Door Meaning

People flinch at this door until they understand its job. The Death Door belongs to the Kun palace in the southwest, and its function is closure. Burial rites, demolishing old structures, ending a partnership, terminating a product line, cutting a habit: anything whose time has genuinely come passes through this door.

In readings it is information, not a verdict. A question about a partnership that shows the Death Door with supporting stars may simply be describing a deal whose useful life is over, and the best move is a clean, negotiated ending rather than a slow death by meetings. When to Use It, When to Avoid It

The Death Door has one honest job: endings done properly. Funerals, demolitions, clearing away what is already dead, cutting off a draining commitment, all belong to it. Used for what it is for, it is not sinister; it is hygiene.

Never begin under it. Weddings, openings, contracts, medical procedures, travel: anything with a future attached will find that future shorter than you planned. If a chart hands you the Death Door for a new venture, the chart is telling you the venture is a corpse.

A Classical Note

In the classical texts the eight doors descend from the eight trigrams, which is why each door keeps a trigram’s palace and element. When its palace is disturbed by clashes, classical practitioners speak of the door being blocked or weakened, and date selection simply means choosing an hour where the same door sits in a friendlier palace.
