Here is a real divination case from my teaching files. A client, let’s call him Marcus, wanted to invest in a retail shop and came to me to check whether the timing and the deal were favorable. This is the kind of question QMDJ handles well, because it cuts through the excitement of a potential deal and shows you the energy underneath.
The question was straightforward: is this retail shop a good investment for Marcus right now? Let me walk you through how the chart was read.
The Reading Steps
Step 1: Refer to the hour stems box to identify the answer palace.
Step 2: Look at Wu (戊), which represents money and capital. Check the relationship between the Day Stem and Wu (戊) to see if the investor’s resources align with the deal.
Step 3: Check the day stem and the palace where the Bandit Star 天蓬星 (Tian Peng) and Black Tortoise 玄武 (Xuan Wu) are located. These two indicate risk, deception, and potential losses.
The Answer Palace
The Hour Stem Gui lands in box 9, which carries high expectations, bloodshed activities, and problem stars. Already, this is not a clean signal for an investment.
Subject and Money Relationship
The subject (Yi) sits in box 9, the Fire palace, which is the same box as the answer. This lets us read the person’s character in relation to the deal. Wu (capital) is in box 7, the Metal palace. Fire melts Metal in the Five Elements cycle, meaning the subject’s energy clashes with the money. Marcus may not have enough capital to comfortably make this investment.
Life Door Assessment
The Life Door 生门 sits in box 8 under the Gen palace (mountains), which suggests good profits but limited reach, constrained within mountainous terrain. The impulse energy clashes outward, which means any gains may be difficult to sustain.
Risk Stars
The Bandit Star 天蓬星 sits in box 6, far from the Life Door. Box 9 clashes box 6, which means any major losses would be limited. That is one small positive in an otherwise weak chart.
Black Tortoise 玄武 sits in box 3 (Wood), and Wood produces Fire in box 9 where both the answer and subject sit. This means small losses are likely if Marcus goes ahead with the investment.
The Capital Problem
Wu (戊) sits in box 7 alongside the Serpent, which signals worries and entanglement. The “o” symbol on Wu indicates emptiness, meaning the capital may not actually be there. Marcus might believe he has the cash, but the chart suggests otherwise.
The Verdict
With Wu unsupported in emptiness and clashing with the subject, the reading is clear: Marcus does not have enough cash for this investment. Even if he somehow scraped the money together, the chart shows a minor loss. My recommendation was to hold off and wait for a better opportunity.
